Introduction

Summer camp is an important part of any child's or teen's life. Having diabetes does not change this fact. For that reason, the American Diabetes Association and the Louisiana Lions teamed up to offer the children of Louisiana outstanding resident camping program.

Providing the youth in Louisiana a safe rewarding camping experience has been a focus of the American Diabetes Association its beginning. Each summer over fifty physicians, nurses, dietitians, and social workers volunteer their time to see that the medical needs of children are met.

The camp is located at the Louisiana Lions near Leesville. Campers enjoy the 170 acres rolling piney woodlands that sit on the edge Lake Vernon. This facility includes bunk houses, cabins, kitchen-dining hall, infirmary, multipurpose building, arts and crafts building, swimming pool, gymnasium, boat dock, archery hut.

Activities at camp are geared to all ages. Younger children will enjoy swimming, art crafts, archery, playground equipment, fishing, nature, dances, and an awards ceremony. Program for the teens will include swimming, canoeing, paddle boats, nature, dances, archery, volleyball and an awards ceremony. Activities are supervised by qualified staff.

Transportation Transportation

Transportation will be provided to campers from the New Orleans, Baton Rouge & Lafayette areas (LIMITED SPACES ARE AVAILABLE. The PARENT or GUARDIAN of the camper MUST be present and is required to ride the bus to the Lions Camp for check in and check out process.

Cost

It is the policy of the Louisiana Lions that there is no fee to attend this camp.

Priority Priority

Priority will be given to Louisiana children, first time campers and newly diagnosed. The American Diabetes Association does not discriminate based on race, creed, national origin, gender or special needs.

The American Diabetes Association is committed to providing educational information and referral services for children and families with diabetes, advocating for fair and quality treatment of children with diabetes in schools, and increasing federal funding for diabetes research.

THE LOUISIANA LIONS CAMP IS ACCREDITED BY THE AMERICAN CAMPING ASSOCIATION.
